Light Is All There Is

Looking for something else, I found a cassette tape labeled, “Job, Job.” “What is this?” I wondered. I had analyzed the Biblical Book Jonah, by turning the Hebrew letters of certain words into numbers. Had I done something similar for Job and forgotten it? Not likely. It took a couple of days to get around to playing that tape, and when I did, an uncanny explosion took place in me. “Job, Job” was a song by the a capella group, Sweet Honey in the Rock and it took me over as its strong rolling drum beat made my hips and feet rock African. The song was about the Biblical Job, the Hebrew patriarch who suffered at the hands of the devil with God’s permission.
The song was bold and plaintive as it queried Job about his dead daughters and his dead oxen. The refrain of the song was a quote from Job himself. “Blessed be the name of the Lord. The Lord giveth, and the Lord take away.” I had liked the song so much that I taped it three times. I wondered how I had ever forgotten about it. I also remembered that something had prompted me to look up the Hebrew spelling and numeration of the name Job only a few weeks before rediscovering the tape. I now also looked up Carl Jung’s Answer to Job for more information.
What I found is relevant to the Moon in Capricorn at this full moon. The Tarot Key attributed to Capricorn is Key 15, The Devil. Jung points out that earlier Christianity had the view that there was One God who ruled the world with a right hand, Christ and a left hand, Satan. That meant that both Good and Evil were the province of One God. Isaiah 45:7 says “I form the light and create darkness. I make peace and create evil. I the Lord do all these things.”
If we looked at the good and bad in our lives as resided over by One primal will-to-good, we would be able to make a certain peace with the bad knowing that, as Shakespeare said, “Sweet are the uses of adversity.”
There is something else interesting in Isaiah. Light is formed. Darkness is created. To form is to take an existing material and shape it. To create is to manifest something that did not previously exist. This suggests that Light is All there is. Therefore, nothing can be that is not formed of light, including evil. Darkness, however is created, made up, as it were. What we often call dark is simply light misunderstood.
You may be presented with something that represents inner security and emotional well-being or happiness (Sun in Cancer) vs. something that represents outer security, discipline and structure. You really desire to be your authentic self, creative and expressive, and yet enjoy freedom from want and freedom from others. But your response to the need to change may be the need to have something familiar, even if you are not using all your talents or you are undervalued or underpaid.
You don’t know whether you should be conservative and self denying, perhaps out the need to protect another from the possible harm of your truth, or take a chance on living more passionately by dying to the old that you may awaken to a truer you.
You may ask if you yourself are good or bad, right or wrong? How do you reconcile? One God. One Good. Ask what sweet use your present adversity may be put to. Above all, don’t frown. Don’t be down. Don’t think, “I’m screwed.” Think this. “Answers abound.” Ask. “What gift is in this?” And say, “Thank you. Thank you for laughter. Thank you for luck. Thank you for the most unexpected good fortune. Thank you for bringing me through. Thank you for blessing me, richly and mightily. Thank you for blessings, all those who are involved in my drama. It’s all good. Thank you for letting me feel this deep, deep down, no matter what things look like. I claim the victory.”
Cancer is a water sign. Water rules the emotions. Give yourself something you can feel. Give yourself the gift of your feelings. Feelings are the sum total of your thoughts. Think of your whole self as your vision statement. What statement are you making? Do you intend to live and give your gifts in a friendly universe that will see to your fulfillment?
Cancer is represented by The Chariot in Tarot. It also rules the principle of speech. Put your money where your mouth is. Put yourself in the victory seat, not for victory over others, but the victory of governed passions pronounced by your victorious thoughts.
