Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory

New Moon Solar Eclipse
September 22, 2006
29 Virgo 20′

An inscription on a church in Sussex England reads, “A vision without a task is but a dream. A task without a vision is drudgery. A task with a vision is the hope of the world.”

This is a perfect message for the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo conjunct the South Node with the North Node in Pisces. Virgo represents tasks. Pisces represents vision. Virgo and Pisces are opposites. Opposites attract because they are extremes of the same thing. They seek each other because they need each other for wholeness and balance. The task is all about the vision. We act upon that which helps advance our vision.

The North Node is the Dragon’s head. The tail must follow the head. For another two years or so, the North Node will be in the sign Pisces. It beckons us to make our dreams and our visions our head, our leader, our reason and direction, and to follow by doing the work.

When you have a dream, you feel better about tasks that will make it real. The most mundane or difficult task lifts you when it is connected to a prize your eye is fixed upon.

Reality tends to become the place where we get stuck. The reality is, some say, business is cutthroat. The reality is models are tall and thin. The reality is short men can’t dunk. Reality pays attention to what’s been done. Vision pays attention to what can be done. Reality can’t be ignored. Neither can vision. Our task is to balance reality and vision. We need real work toward a vision that is beyond reality, but within reason.

Determination is the determiner because it seeks a way. If you want to change your circumstances, you have to change your mind. That seems hard. Thinking is the difficult thing. Sustained positive thought in the presence of terrible, limiting, embarrassing circumstances is the necessary thing.

We usually say you have to do something. Depression of possibility makes one freeze. You don’t do when you think you can’t. You don’t know what to do and nothing is telling you. So you are stuck. As long as the mind plays private movies that feature people who are dead set against you, you make that true. You make it an immovable reality. And you don’t act because you can’t act. What are you going to do? You don’t know what to do!

What if you faced all realities, limitations, and evils with some magic words that say you can?

I recently heard a tape of Dr. Martin Luther King’s last public words in a speech delivered the night before his death. He said that God had taken him to the mountaintop and allowed him to look over that and see the Promised Land. He said, “I may not be able to get there with you, but mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

“We as a people will get to the Promised Land.”
Those have been magical words for me. They have gotten me to take a chance and a stand and to make an effort. They have encouraged me in the face of government betrayal and corporate greed. Martin Luther King has said that we will get there. So why not act as if?

Make yourself a formula of some words that can give you strength. (The Your Word, Your Wand workshop on Sunday, October 8th can help you.) Deny present reality a future win. Think, “I can and I will.” Say good words to yourself. Tell yourself that your possibilities are endless and that your shining self is your star.

Think inspirational thoughts with conviction, and get in motion. Something tells you what to do, or you know what to do and dare. You are guided all the way.
