Relationships Are In the Eye of the Beholder

Dear Libra. Speak to us of relationships, since your sign rules them.
And Libra said, “Relationships are in the eye of the beholder. This is what I want you to know when the Moon is Full in Aries opposed the Sun in Libra. You are bound to your friends and lovers as well as to your enemies. All are projections from your own eye.” (Sight comes under the auspices of Aries.)
Libra says, “Relationships spark me. They are the reason I am. I am a partner. I am a helper. I am because of you. I love to excite, energize, and champion you. I love it when you see me as vital to your existence. I like you because you are exciting, unique, and individualistic. It works for me to see the partner as an independent with their own goals and ideas.
“Trouble is, sometimes my partner’s independence is threatening because I am so dependent upon them. I am so often defined by them and their definiteness (or lack of it) about me. When I am discounted, I may be thrown off-balance. I see myself as a peacemaker in contrast to my partners who are stormy. I sometimes get with people who seem selfish and aloof.
“With Capricorn on my fourth house cusp, deep down inside I may be insecure. I may be too aware of my limits. My rock is ambition. I am a cardinal, meaning active, sign. I want the top of the mountain. The stock I come from, may be an issue. If they are hearty, I got bedrock. If they are less than, I may not believe in what I achieve. Who are my people? And God, oh God. Where do I belong? I look to achieve status and recognition. I want to be pivotal to my family unit. I need for my family to look up to me and respect me. I want to be proud of my family also. Home ownership might be essential to me. All of this goes into my interaction in partnership.
“Everything that I do, I do for emotional security. (Cancer on the 10th). I want something that is mine, all mine. I want to feel that all is right with the world. At this Full Moon in Aries, this is particularly true. I need the other person, my partner or whoever I am present entangled with, to show support for me and my desires. I wish they would love me or like me and work with me. I wish they took a more creative and loving role, and of their own initiative. I wish they wanted to work with me.”
With Libra as a cardinal air sign, relationships are an active idea. Air is a mental sign. Relationships are mental. They are an idea and an ideal. The idea is depicted by the scales. Relationships are about fairness, balance, and equality.
You are what you think. You make your relationships based on how you think. Change your mind. Change your relationships.
We have taught each other to be on the take. Life is a place where you get things. At Christmas it’s toys from Santa, who flies through the air in a sled. Ask Santa for what you want, then you better be nice, not naughty.
No. We need to get on the give. Life is about giving. Your family is where you first practice giving, sharing a space and parents and concerns for one another. You give in play and art, letting go, discovering, exploring, expressing. You give to your children in countless ways and you give through your work. You give service because you are on the planet and you have something to give, and it is of yourself, of your heart, and of your heat.
We are citizens, not subjects. We’re hands on, not hand’s out. Gwendolyn Brooks said, “We are each other’s magnitude and bond.”
Blessed are you if you are there for somebody, if you punch a clock with purpose and determination. Blessed are you if you know that if you embrace another idea, things change. If you think you can, you can. In an earlier column we said that we were not afraid of big oil, then along comes Proposition 87 and lower gas prices. I hope you got that connection and will continue in whatever small way to stand for a better world.
