What side of the fence were you born on, wealth or poverty? Whichever one it is seals your experience to some degree and thereby your expectations or your fate. If you were born into wealth or into means, you expect success. It is automatic, all around you. It is an assumption. You also have supports in place to insure it. You have a college fund, Your parents are proactive about your education. If they have the means, they buy you a car.

If you were born into poverty, lack or struggle, you expect failure. All around you are the signs that your parents failed and you will fail by luck of the draw. The people around you may expect you to fail or have a life of lacks and limits. That, too, is an assumption. You do not have supports in place. Your parents haven’t saved for your college education, because they couldn’t. They don’t buy you a car when you are old enough to drive. They may not have cars themselves.

Of course I am talking generalities. There are exceptions to both sides of the story. Rich kids sometimes squander their opportunities, and poor kids sometimes excel. The point is your surroundings often dictate your expectations. What you see is what you reproduce. To be different, to live different, to have a different outcome, you have to see differently.

When Oprah Winfrey was four years old and her grandmother called her over to learn to scrub sheets because she was going to have to take in wash someday too. The four-year old Oprah said to herself, “No Grandma. No, I won’t.” Now Oprah, one of the richest women in the world, has just opened a leadership academy for 152 South African girls where the girls will live, pampered, challenged, and stretched by Oprah’s heart and soul and influence, as they prepare for college and beyond. For some of them, they are sleeping on beds for the first time, or using an indoor toilet for the first time. This academy only took in the best and the brightest, girls who already excelled in scholarship and leadership. None of these girls knew this opportunity was going to come their way, but do you think they only started to dream when Oprah showed up? They not only dreamed, they prepared. For what? For something better?

These Black South African girls are young magicians. They brought something into their lives, that they now walk around in and live in, and they had no idea what potent shape their dreams would take. You are a magician too. You have your eyes on a prize. You may see it free and clear, or you may see it as having a barrier in front of it and a long obstructed road to it. You may not see it anymore. It may have faded so long ago that you cannot recall the name or shape of it.

You may be a magician out of conditioning and practice. You might have forgotten the formulas. You might have many failed spells. But you are still a magician.

The sign Pisces rules the deepest unconscious mind, storehouse of dreams and memories. When we refer to the back of the mind, we refer to Pisces. In the back of your mind, you think of your past aspirations and efforts (Sagittarius). You have had your tests and trials and you have had chances and opportunities and maybe your squandered them, ignorant of the gold in your possession.

Maybe in the back of your mind you are thinking that your current hell is the wrath of God visiting you because of your bad-headed past, willing your punishment like a parent with a strap. Maybe in the back of your mind you are thinking that you are not capable, not enough, not deserving.

You see something good. You see a good life and you say, “It will never be me. I want it, but it eluded me in the past or is about to slip from my grasp, and it is gone forever.”

But that’s your story. That’s what you are making up for yourself. Change the story and you change your life. Tell another story, one beyond your present wildest imaginings. See the good you want as yours. Think of it in sweeter terms. Let it be savory to you. Relish it and enjoy it. Think, “It’s so close, I can taste it. Take it with you to bed and night. Stroke it. Smile about it.

If something is being or has been taken away from you, it is not your good that going. Let it go. It is blockage. It hid the curtain that shall open up to the big reveal. Expect it and you will move toward it. You will act after it. You will act as if you had complete and total power and the universe has only been awaiting your commands.

Your dreams become compelling and commanding. They take the lead. You start to see where you want to go and you move in that direction. You dance toward something good, something that feels good and fills you up. Something real. Something possible.
