In the Eye of the Beholder

New Moon
Solar Eclipse
January 25, 2009
6 Aquarius 30’.

Good and evil are in the eye of the beholder. See good and it will be. See evil and it will be. See thriving economic circumstances and they will be. See failure and poverty and they will be. Those who see thriving will live in a common world, and those who see poverty will live in a common world also.

See good when you look at evil. It’s all good. Everything works out for good.

Someone asked me after Barack Obama’s election if we were entering the Age of Aquarius. My response was that I doubted that the Age of Aquarius would be immediately evident in an event, and might not be evident in an outer way at all. But post inauguration I am willing to say that if there were ever a symbol of a dawning age, this is it, and like Obama says, it’s not about what he can do, it is what we can do.

Aquarius represents the impossible dream that transforms the ordinary life when it is pursued. It seems impossible, yet is worth reaching for. As the poet says, “A man’s reach must exceed his grasp, else what’s a heaven for? To resign yourself to the possible is to dwell in mediocrity and repeat the past.

The mind of Aquarius is active, independent and a leader. (Aries on the 3rd house cusp.)

The mind, the place where ideas are formed, is triggered by the past or triggering the past. Mercury is retrograde. Re-write the past. Re-write your story. Don’t keep repeating the same old story that didn’t have a happy ending. If that story is impacting you today, then it actually did not have an ending; so let it have a new beginning. Let it have an offshoot. Let it branch off from heartache and the road not traveled. Start a new chapter.

We need to have the courage of our convictions in order to transcend the broken male part of ourselves, the part that won’t act upon ideas because it is stuck in “can’t do.” Would love to make it, but probably can’t. So I won’t try. I won’t make an effort for nothing. Instead, I will hide.

In order to heal your broken inner male, you have to carry through and follow through on those orders that reach your mind. You heal your inner broken male by being a builder, brick by brick. You keep going. You tarp in the rain, and persevere in the heat and cold.

The dream may seem impossible, but it feels so good to strive for it, work for it and believe in it. Stretching makes life worth living.

Watch the words you put in the mouths of others. Don’t create your ill fate as a result of the will of others. The side of you that worries about the enemy is the part of you that you don’t acknowledge. Don’t put harsh judgments into the mouths of others. Don’t make someone else the bearer of the self-condemnation that you harbor.

Don’t make someone else the roadblock or obstacle that keeps you from being all that you can be. That’s what blame does—it gives away the power.

Above all, don’t blame the system. The system has gotten as out of hand as we have let it collectively. When we get our personal system in order, we make a better world for ourselves.

Repeat after me. I am a person of power. I take responsibility for my own life. It is up to me to make it. But I don’t make it by myself. I make it by my alignment with my best self. I need to have my Star Bright Self in view. I keep my eye on the prize. Where others see tough times ahead, I see myself on the bridge over them.

Eclipses always conjunct one of the nodes. This Eclipse connects with the North Node in Aquarius. The North represents the place of greatest darkness. If we can travel though the north, through that which is difficult, we can secure our liberation from the darkness of ignorance and fear. It is the darkest part of the woods that we need to enter in order to find ourselves. Fear keeps us from exploring this region. We fear that we will be revealed as inadequate. So we hang back in the shadows of safety that rob our light of its chance to shine.

The StarIn the Tarot, Aquarius is assigned to Key 17, The Star, which shows a nude woman alone in a field with no human structures. As I meditated on the Star in preparation for this solar eclipse the inner voice told me that Key 17 was a Virgin, even though I associate her with Juno who is considered the helpmate or wife. This means that she is complete, whole and one in herself, dependent upon no other while she heeds the instruction of the stars that comes when she pours forth her experiences in search of answers, healing, solution and revolution.

The price for being a virgin seems to be aloneness. We human beings, especially the feminine, do not like aloneness. But being a virgin is actually an all-oneness. A virgin is she who is most herself. A virgin is a person who does what she does not to be liked or accepted or approved of, even by herself. She does what she does because it is true. Therefore she is the standard bearer who can be relied upon when trouble threatens.

Our task is to be like the kneeling Bath Sheba, listening for the instruction of the stars. We are to live in the calm that follows the storm, the star that gets you across the bridge or to the North or over the hurdle or through the woods.

We are comfortable being naked and keeping ourselves in a place that we do not need to hide. We are happy to be.

    Hi Lisa,

Even though I have not seen you for a while, I remember you well. Thank you for your comment. I agree that this is a powerful and interesting time and I am grateful that my comments were timely and helpful.

This is a wonderful iteration of my life and the juncture i find myself in right now. i am also re-reading your book simultaneously so the message, “Where others see tough times ahead, I see myself on the bridge over them” is much stronger. This is one time however that i must remove my own head from being the other, as you did in your book. Get out the way, fear-doubt-hiding!~ Rule the day, not rue it!

    Inez,
thanks once again for your creativity and listening heart,
    love, niamo
