Recently, I viewed a YouTube video in which some friends were shopping for sunglasses in an Unclaimed Baggage store. One of the women was looking specifically for Gucci. When they found the sunglasses counter, they started shouting out, Christian Dior! Ferragamo! Dolce & Gabbana! Luis Vuitton!
They didn’t say, “These are cute!” or “I love these!” They called out the designer names. This could represent Sun and Mercury in Leo, sign of pride, with the square to Uranus in Taurus, which might call for a revelation about the association of expensive goods to enhance our sense of self. How real is this? I priced a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses online for $363.
In a movie I saw recently, a woman's son was paid a “bonus” for selling drugs, with a pair of expensive sneakers. His mother called them “clown shoes.” But when the drug dealer showed the young man that pair of shoes, his eyes widened with desire.
I was recently reminded that feeling inferior or superior both represent an unbalanced ego. If we can look at ourselves in the mirror of reflected life with Moon in Aquarius’ dispassion—looking without judgement, guilt, or condescension—we can have the poise of someone who knows who they are, and from where their power derives—the Central Self, the Creative Intelligence, the Primal Will to Good.
We may think that imagination is only for fantasy, not realizing that we live in and by our imagination all the time (in the full Moon chart, Venus in Virgo opposes Saturn in Pisces). We might imagine that people look up to us because we wear certain labels, or look down on us because we do not. On one hand we can feel Venus opposition Saturn in terms of lack. In certain circles, it might be important to wear the right labels, but what’s going on really? Is possessing the right stuff what we really want? Do we try to break through financial limits, so that we can buy stuff to puff up our ego?
A good way to use the squares between Uranus (in the sign of money) and the Sun (self) and the Moon (habit) is to notice when the things on which we spend our money do not buy us the self-respect and self-value that we really want.
This is not a blanket indictment of designer labels or brand names, but a call for an awakening to spare ourselves from practices that don’t serve us.

Become more conscious of your purchases. Are you spending money to shore up a flattened ego? Or does your spending represent and support your genuine self-expression and your core values?
