The cardinal sign Cancer corresponds to summer, and has to do with the emotional aspect of life that has to do with our inner life. These times provoke anxiety and even seem crazy. How did we come to this, where both our prospective leaders appear to be mentally unstable, and our own Supreme Court seems to have thrown out our nation’s moral compass.
What do you and I do? We cannot solve the problem. I dare say that I do not know what to do, but I do know how to be. The first thing is to be alert and have no fear. Fear is destabilizing. The North Node is in the Mars-ruled sign of Aries which signifies I am in command of me. “I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul.” – William Henley, Invictus.
There is a planet, asteroid or node in each of the four cardinal signs, indicating the four aspects of relating, led by self.
The next outstanding occurrence in the New Moon chart is the predominance of water—the Sun, Moon, and Venus in Cancer, Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, and Pallas-Athene in Scorpio. Water is the element we are most dismissive of when it comes to the importance of our feelings, even though our bodies are around 65% water, and our earth is mostly water. Most of the teachers and leaders tell us that we must "feel" what we want. How do you feel about a strong nation? What do we counsel with an abundance of water? We might say, don’t ignore your feelings. Don’t forget about compassion and caring. Don’t be dry; be watered. No water. No life.
There is something about the Preamble to the Constitution that evokes feeling for me. It is also simple:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Our charge is to act with discernment. Mars is the ruler of the North Node, and it also makes a sextile to Venus in Cancer offering the possibility that our actions harmonize can with our desires.
Practicum
In honor of Mercury in Leo conjunct the asteroid Vesta in Leo:
Light a candle.

Stay strong.
Remember the image of the woman taming the lion in Tarot Key 8, Strength, to which Leo is assigned. Strength is not brute. It is subtle, poised, and confident.
